About Bhutan Waste Bank

The Bhutan Waste Bank, a project under Greener Way, will establish waste banks at all drop off centres (DOCs) in Thimphu to tackle the city's growing waste problem. The project will pay money to incentivize collection of plastic and other recyclable waste brought to the DOCs. This collected waste will supply Greener Way's existing recycling plant, which will undergo expansion. A PET washing and shredding facility will also be set up at the Memeylakha landfill site. Support for this pro- ject comes from the World Bank through the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia initiative, imple- mented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) with support from UNOPS
